Student Assistant Men's Soccer Coach
Owen McCarthy begins his first season at USI as a student assistant coach for the men's soccer program. McCarthy holds a USSF "D" coaching license after directing the southern Indiana district team of the Olympic Development Program. A former assistant coach at Memorial High School (Evansville, Indiana), he is a member of the Evansville Soccer Club coaching staff.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, McCarthy was a cadet at the United States Military Academy and he was a member of the Army Division I soccer team in 2004-05 . His collegiate soccer career was cut short after his freshman season due to injury.
McCarthy was as the starting midfielder at the U.S. Military Academy Preparatory School (Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey) and spent a semester in residence training at the IMG Soccer Academy in Florida. He also trained in Brazil.
A Memorial High School graduate, McCarthy was a four-year member of the varsity soccer team and was a part of the Tigers' 2002 IHSAA soccer championship. He also was a starter on the Indiana ODP State Team that won the ODP Region II championship.
