USI soccer plays in GLVC/GLIAC Challenge
Who has the best conference – the Great Lakes Valley Conference or the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference? The NCAA Division II will find out about the soccer teams this weekend as four institutions from the GLVC and the GLIAC will meet in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team (0-1) will try to get onto the winning track when it kicks off against Ashland University Friday, September 6, at 1:30 p.m. The Screaming Eagles have not played on a neutral site since 1996 when they lost to Ashland, 3-2, in the Central Classic at Oakland University. The USI will finish the weekend Sunday, September 8, against Hillsdale College at 12:30 p.m.
Hillsdale (1-1), which is ranked 17th nationally, is the first of four NSCAA/adidas Preseason Top 25 teams on the Eagles’ schedule. Ashland (0-2) fell from eighth in the preseason poll to receiving votes after dropping matches to the GLVC’s Quincy University and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
USI will be hoping to bounce back from the 2-0 defeat at Truman State University last weekend. TSU received votes for the Top 25 after the victory.
