USI men's soccer opens the GLVC schedule on the road
The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team will open the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule this week, beginning at Northern Kentucky University Friday, September 20. The men’s match will start at 4:30 p.m. (CT) Friday night.
The USI men’s soccer team, ranked 10th in the Central Region, goes to NKU hoping to stay on the right track after its 4-1 victory over the University of St. Francis. The Screaming Eagles also will be trying to start the GLVC schedule with a victory for the first time since 1991.
Leading the way for USI is junior forward Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana), this week’s GLVC Player of the Week. Settles, who had his third career hat trick against St. Francis, has a team-best nine points on four goals and one assist.
Between the posts, junior goalkeeper Josh Hill (Maple Park, Illinois) has been doing the job for the Eagles. Hill has a 1.64 goals against average and one shutout through five games.
NKU enters the week ranked fifth in the region and with a record of 2-1-1. The Norse will play Hillsdale College on Wednesday, September 18, before playing the Eagles.
USI will have to contend with NKU’s leading scorer, senior forward Jeff Anderson. He had a goal and an assist in the Norse’s 3-1 win over the Eagles last year and has scored four goals in four contests so far this fall.
The Eagles will finish the road trip on Sunday, September 22, at Bellarmine University. Match time on Sunday is 11 a.m.
