USI soccer team hosts SIUE on Sunday
The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team will play in the first game of a doubleheader with Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Sunday, October 13, at Strassweg Field. The men’s game will be at noon, followed by the women’s game at 2:30 p.m.
The USI men’s team, 7-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, finds itself in the hunt to host the GLVC Tournament Finals with just three weeks and five league matches remaining on it conference schedule. The Cougars lead the conference with a 6-0-0 record and four GLVC contests remaining.
In addition to USI and SIUE, Quincy University (5-1-0 GLVC), Lewis University (4-1-0), and the University of Missouri-St. Louis (4-1-0 GLVC) also are in the hunt to win the conference regular season crown. USI has the tie-breaker with Quincy, but UMSL has the tie-breaker over the Eagles.
Since falling for the first time in the conference, USI has bounced back to win its last two contests. The Eagles’ latest victory came Wednesday when their senior forwards–Duncan Bray (Scotland) and Greg Henry (France) – scored three goals to defeat Brescia University, 3-2.
Along with staying in the hunt to host the conference tournament, the Eagles want to stop a seven-match winless streak with SIUE. The Cougars defeated USI, 4-1, last fall and lead the series 6-2-1.
