USI senior Greg Henry named Player of the Year in GLVC
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Senior forward Greg Henry (France), who led the University of Southern Indiana to a 7-3 conference mark and to a No. 4 seed in the GLVC Tournament, was voted GLVC Player of the Year by league coaches.
Henry is second on the USI squad with 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists, but more importantly has posted six game-winning goals. His biggest game-winner to date came this week in the USI’s 3-2 double overtime victory over Quincy University in the GLVC Tournament first round. The win allowed USI to advance to the GLVC final four for the first time since 1995.
USI senior midfielder Duncan Bray (Scotland) joins Henry on the All-GLVC first team, while Eagles’ senior midfielder John Havill (Washington, Indiana) and freshman goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) earned second team honors. Penick also received Co-Freshman of the Year honors along with SIU Edwardsville's Tim Velte.
Bray, who was recently named Verizon All-District V, leads the Eagles in scoring with 30 points on nine goals and a team high 12 assists. His 12 assists are tops in the GLVC and rank sixth in the GLVC. Havill is fourth on the squad in scoring with a career-high 14 points on a four-year best six goals and two assists.
Penick had an outstanding freshman season for USI between the posts. Penick posted a 1.27 goals against average and had a 10-3 record with five shutouts. In GLVC action, he had a 0.61 GAA, a 7-2 record, and four shutouts.
