USI men’s soccer enters NCAA II Top 25
Eagles ranked for the first time since 1995

The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team entered the NSCAA Division II Top 25 for the first time since 1995 at number 22 in a poll of Division II coaches. The Screaming Eagles enter this week’s action on a four-matching winning streak, a 4-0-0 GLVC record, and a 5-3-0 overall mark.

The last time the Eagles were ranked in the top 25 was October 23, 1995 when the NCAA Division II ranked the team 24th. The highest USI has ever been ranked was 17th at the end of the 1991 season.

“To be 4-1 in the region and 4-0 in the GLVC, we feel that we are in a good place,” said USI Head Coach Dan Hogan. “Now, we want to make sure that the hard work we have put into the regional record continues and we stay in at least the third spot. It is easier to get into the rankings, but it’s harder to stay there.”

In addition to USI, the GLVC was represented by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, who moved from 19th to 14th in the poll. The Eagles, who have a two-game lead over SIUE in the GLVC standings, play the Cougars in Edwardsville Friday September 17.

USI begins a three-match homestand Friday, October 3, when they host Bellarmine University for a 7:30 p.m. match. The remainder of the homestand includes Northern Kentucky University Sunday, October 5, and 5th-ranked Truman State University Friday, October 10.
