#21 USI vs. #3 Truman State on Friday
While most people root for their alma mater, University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer coach Dan Hogan won’t be rooting for his Friday night when the 21st-ranked Screaming Eagles hosts third-ranked Truman State University for a 5 p.m. match on Strassweg Field.
Friday’s match is the biggest of the season so far for the Eagles and Hogan, who graduated from then Northeast Missouri State University in 1986. Truman State enters the match as the number one team in the Central Region and with a perfect 10-0-0 record.
A USI victory could set the Eagles on the right course for a run at the NCAA Division II Tournament in November. USI’s next test will be a week from now when USI plays at 11th-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in a GLVC match Friday, October 17.
In addition to positioning for an NCAA Division II Tournament look, the Eagles will be hoping to extend their season-high winning streak to seven and their home winning streak to 15. USI starts this week’s action with a 7-3-0 overall record.
Truman State leads the all-time series with USI, 7-4-1 winning the last four meetings with USI. The last time the Eagles defeated the Bulldogs was in 1991 at Strassweg Field.
