USI puts three on the All-GLVC squads
The University of Southern Indiana had three men’s soccer players named All-GLVC in a vote by the league coaches. USI senior midfielders Duncan Bray (Scotland) and Matt Settles (Evansville, Indiana) were named to the first team, while senior back Shawn Sloan (St. Peters, Missouri) was named to the second team.
Bray, who was selected to the first team All-GLVC for the second straight season, leads the Eagles in scoring with 19 points on six goals and a team-high seven assists. He also has produced two game-winning goals, including the game-winner in last weekend’s GLVC Tournament opening win over Bellarmine University.
This is the first time for Settles or Sloan to be named to the All-GLVC teams.
Settles trails Bray by two points for the team lead in scoring with 17 points on six goals and five assists. He leads the team with five game-winning goals, four coming in GLVC regular season action.
Sloan has had an outstanding senior season on defense for the Eagles. He helped the Eagles to a 1.41 goals against average in 2003, 0.87 in the GLVC. The senior also has contributed offensively, scoring his first two goals as an Eagle and dishing out four assists.
Bray named Academic All-District V by CoSIDA
For the second straight season, University of Southern Indiana senior midfielder Duncan Bray was named Academic All-District V by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Bray moves on to the CoSIDA College Division Academic All-America ballot.
CoSIDA’s College Division includes NCAA Division II and III as well as both divisions of NAIA, while District V includes institutions from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ontario, and Manitoba.
To be eligible, a nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at his/her institution.
Bray, a physical education major, was a second team Academic All-American and a first team NSCAA Scholar All-American last season. If he is named Academic All-American on November 24, Bray will be one of only two USI student athletes to be named Academic All-American more than once. LeAnn Freeland was named Academic All-American in 1996 and 1997.
