Hendon signs with USI men’s soccer
The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team announced the signing of forward/midfielder Corey Hendon to a letter of intent for the 2004 season. Hendon is the fourth player to sign with USI Head Coach Dan Hogan this month.
Hendon is a senior at Madisonville-North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Kentucky where he has lettered in soccer, football, powerlifting, and baseball.
In soccer, Hendon set the Kentucky High School Athletic Association record for consecutive games with an assist (4) and goals scored (5). He also was a four-time Athletic Academic All-State selection a four-time All-District player and was named All-Region in 2002.
Hendon scored 44 career goals and assisted on 23 more in 53 career games in three varsity seasons at Madisonville-North Hopkins. He had his best season as a junior when he had 55 points on 23 goals and nine assists.
Madisonville-North Hopkins and Hendon were the district championship during each of his varsity seasons and won the regional crown in 2002.
As a powerlifter, Hendon competed in the 165-pound category and ranked sixth in Kentucky. He has a max bench press of 270 pounds, which was second best in the 165-pound class at the state meet, and a deadlift of 450 pounds.
“Corey was injured for the majority of his senior season and is one reason, I think, why he went unnoticed,” said Hogan. “He has above average speed and a great left foot. Corey can play as a left back, left midfield, or forward.”
Hendon joins forward Andrew Bass (St. Peters, Missouri), forward/midfielder Jacy Brimm (Evansville, Indiana), and midfielder Quintin Meyers (Washington, Indiana) in signing with the Eagles.
