USI menís soccer starts year with three of exhibition games
The University of Southern Indiana menís soccer team will kick-off the 2004 season with three of exhibition games. The Screaming Eagles will host Southwestern Illinois College August 14 play Brescia University August 18 at Goebel Soccer Park and visit the University of Evansville on August 21.
Match times are 6 p.m. on August 14 7:30 p.m. on August 18 and 2 p.m. on August 21.
The Eagles open the 2004 regular season with a two-match homestand, beginning with Harris Stowe State College August 27 for a 7 p.m. match. USI concludes the homestand against Columbia College (Missouri) August 29 at 1 p.m.
USI menís and womenís soccer teams open the GLVC schedule at home when they host Quincy University for a GLVC doubleheader September 17. The menís team will be the opening draw in conference doubleheaders this season, followed by the womenís match.
The Eagles enter 2004 hoping to continue the momentum of the last two years. Last yearís 10-7-1 overall record and 8-2-0 league campaign marked the first time USI had back-to-back winning seasons since 1991 and 1992. The 2003 squad also was the first USI menís soccer team to be ranked in the national top 25 since 1995.
USI is in the middle of two-a-day practices, 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Due to the variety of practice sites, the media is asked to please call before coming out to practices for interviews. The Eagles will be rotating practice sessions among four sites Ė the rugby field on Clark Lane the practice field next to the USI Tennis Courts the practice field on the USI Intramural Complex on Broadway Avenue and Strassweg Field.
*Media Note: Due to NCAA regulations concerning exhibitions/ scrimmages in Division II soccer, no score or statistics will be kept and/or released after the matches. The coaches and the players will be available for comment after each game.
