USI men’s soccer resumes homestand by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan
The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team will play the second half of its four-match homestand by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday at 5 p.m. and the University of Findlay Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Screaming Eagles (1-6-1 overall, 0-2-0 GLVC) are coming off of a tough weekend, falling to Quincy University, 4-2, and to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 4-0. Freshman forward Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) leads the team in scoring with eight points on four goals, while freshman forward Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) is a point behind with seven points on three goals and one assist.
Kentucky Wesleyan (3-4-0 overall, 0-2-0 GLVC) also started GLVC play with a pair of losses, losing to SIUE, 3-0, and second-ranked Lewis University, 3-1. Panther freshman midfielder Tyson Shulzabarger and sophomore midfielder Drew Waldroup are tied for the team lead in scoring with four points each. Shulzabarger has a pair of goals, while Waldroup earned his points through four assists.
USI leads the all-time series with KWC, 15-5-2, and has won six of eight matches (6-1-1) with the Panthers since returning to the conference in 1995.
The Eagles will be playing Findlay in men’s soccer for the first time Sunday morning in a non-conference match-up. The Oilers (5-3-1) have won four in a row and five of their last six after defeating the GLVC’s Saint Joseph’s College, 4-1, Wednesday.
UF junior forward Jacob Schramm leads the Oilers in scoring with 12 points on six goals, while junior goalkeeper Dustin Robbins leads the defense with a 1.13 goals against average.
