Eagles fall to Findlay
Findlay 1, USI 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind.óThe University of Southern Indiana menís soccer team lost a hard-fought match Sunday at Strassweg Field to the University of Findlay, 1-0.
Findlay (6-3-0) scored with less than two minutes to play in the first half to take the 1-0 advantage. The goal came of the foot of the Oilersí Clay Oley off a feed from Jacob Schramm.
The Screaming Eagles (2-7-1) out-shot the Oilers, 7-4, and had four shots on goal, but were unable to get anything past Findlay goalkeeper Dustin Robbins, who finished with four saves.
USI looked to have a break-a-way opportunity late in the match when freshman forward Andrew Bass (St. Peters, Missouri) worked his way past the Findlay defenders. Before Bass could get a shot off, however, Robbins came out to smother the ball and take away any opportunities of a tying goal.
The Eagles defense played well, holding Findlay to just two shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana) had a save in the loss.
USI will travel to Highland Heights, Kentucky, Friday to take on Northern Kentucky University in a 4 p.m. (CDT) match before heading to Louisville, Kentucky, to take on Bellarmine University next Sunday at 11 a.m.
