USI men’s soccer goes on the road in the GLVC
The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team goes on the road this week in the GLVC, visiting Northern Kentucky University Friday evening and Bellarmine University Sunday afternoon. Game time is 4 p.m. (CT) at NKU and 11 a.m. at Bellarmine.
USI (2-7-1 overall, 1-2-0 GLVC) moved out of the league’s basement to seventh with a win over Kentucky Wesleyan College last Friday. The Screaming Eagles were 1-1 last week, dropping a hard-fought match with Findlay University, 1-0, last Sunday.
Leading the way for the Eagles is freshman forward Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky), who has 10 points on five goals. Freshman forward Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) follows Dugger in the scoring column with nine points on three goals and three assists.
Stoll and freshman back/midfielder Sam Gelven (St. Louis, Missouri) are tied for the team lead in assists with three each.
NKU (6-2-2, 1-2-1 GLVC) enters this weekend’s action a half-game ahead of USI in the conference standings and has lost their last two matches in overtime. The Norse lost at Quincy University, 1-0, last Friday and at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, 2-1, last Sunday.
USI leads the all-time series, 14-7-2, and won last season’s match, 1-0, in double- overtime. USI also has won the last two meetings with the Norse.
Bellarmine (3-5-2, 0-3-1 GLVC) starts the weekend by hosting Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon. The Knights also lost a pair of GLVC matches on the road last week, falling 3-2 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and 4-1 at Quincy.
The Eagles lead the all-time series, 19-6-1, and have won the last three meetings. USI took, both, the regular season and the GLVC Tournament matches by 2-1 scores last year.
USI concludes the GLVC home schedule next weekend when it hosts Saint Joseph’s College on October 8 and the University of Indianapolis on October 10 for Senior Day.
