Second half goals ground Eagles
Indianapolis 3, USI 1
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Indianapolis scored three goals in the first 14 minutes of the second half to defeat the University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer 3-1 Sunday at Strassweg Field and hand the Screaming Eagles their fifth straight loss.
USI (2-11-1 overall, 1-6-0 GLVC) took a 1-0 lead into halftime after freshman forward Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) scored on a penalty kick in the 28th minute of the contest. It was Dugger’s team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Indianapolis (6-5-2 overall, 3-3-1 GLVC) answered quickly in the second half as John Higgins scored off a pass from Eric Nance to tie the match at 1-1.
Miquel de Diego scored an unassisted goal to give the Greyhounds a 2-1 lead in the 52nd minute of the game and Jimmy Rust finished the scoring in the 59th minute off a pass from Lee Schreyer.
The Eagles will take to the road this Friday as they travel to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on No. 12 Lewis University. USI will play No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Parkside a week from today.
