USI men’s soccer signs a pair of goalkeepers
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team announced the signing of a pair of goalkeepers – Jake Bryan and Adam Churchill – to national letters of intent for the 2005 season. Bryan and Churchill are the sixth and seventh players to sign with USI Head Coach Dan Hogan this spring.
Churchill will travel to USI from Warsaw Community High School (Warsaw, Indiana). The four-year varsity player at WHS was a two-time first team All-Conference performer and the MSRA Northern Indiana Goalkeeper of the Year. He also was the South Bend Tribune Most Valuable Player as a senior and led the IHSAA in goalkeeping in 2003 and 2004.
As a senior, Churchill started 19 matches and produced nine shutouts and a 0.65 goals against average in leading WHS to the Northern Lakes Conference championship.
“Adam comes from a traditionally strong high school and club team,” said Hogan. “He has extremely quick reactions and can punt and kick better than most keepers. Adam’s competitive nature will strengthen the goalkeeping position”.
Bryan, who could be the tallest goalkeeper in the history of the men’s soccer program at six feet five inches, comes to the USI program from Portage High School (Portage, Indiana). He won seven letters in soccer and basketball at PHS.
“Kenneth only played four games in goal his senior year due to a knee injury, but is back to full strength,” commented Hogan. “He has great distribution skills and good footwork for a big guy. We are looking forward to pairing Kenneth with Churchill and returning senior goalkeeper Kyle Penick.”
In addition to Bryan and Churchill, USI has signed junior forward/midfielder Brett Palazzolo (St. Louis, Missouri) junior midfielder/back Eric Brewer (Granite City, Illinois) freshmen forward Mike Bendzen (Evansville, Indiana) freshman midfielder Tyree Robinson (Jefferson City, Missouri) and freshman midfielder Dan Grunewald (Munster, Indiana).
