USI men’s and women’s soccer open seasons in August

EVANSVILLE, Ind. The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s soccer teams will open the 2005 campaigns with exhibition games in August. The exhibition matches will feature a men’s and women’s doubleheader against the University of Evansville on August 20.
Prior to the doubleheader at Evansville, the women’s soccer team will open the season with an exhibition match at Murray State University August 17.
The women’s soccer team begins the regular season at Grand Valley State University for the second straight year. The Screaming Eagles play a neutral site match with Ferris State University on August 26, followed by a match on August 28 against host Grand Valley State.
The men’s soccer team also starts the 2005 campaign on the road, playing Truman State University on August 27 and Harris-Stowe State College on August 28.
Both teams open the home schedule at Strassweg Field on September 3 with a doubleheader match-up against Ashland University. The USI and Ashland women’s teams will be playing at Strassweg Field for the first time since Ashland defeated the Eagles in the 1998 NCAA Division II Tournament quarterfinals.
The squads take to the road to start conference action in the new-look GLVC in 2005. USI will play 13 conference games in 2005, starting at Bellarmine University on September 9. The women’s games are the first half of the conference doubleheaders this year.
USI hosts its GLVC home opening doubleheader on September 16 when the University of Missouri-Rolla comes to Strassweg Field. This will be UM-Rolla’s first visit to USI as a member of the GLVC.
Senior Day is scheduled for October 23 when USI hosts Lewis University for the final GLVC doubleheader of the regular season.
