Screaming Eagles win GLVC opener

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men’s soccer team opened the GLVC season with a victory at Bellarmine University, 2-1, Friday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI, which has already surpassed its win total from last year, moves to 3-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine goes to 2-3-0 overall, 0-1-0 GLVC.

The Knights got onto the scoreboard first just 2:49 into the match. The Screaming Eagles responded just before the intermission on a goal by sophomore midfielder Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana). Stoll scored his third goal of the year on a penalty kick at the 32:05 mark.
Michael Dugger

The game remained tie until the 72:47 mark when sophomore forward Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky) scored the game-winner. Dugger scored his first goal of the year off a pass from freshman forward Mike Bendzen (Evansville, Indiana).

USI will try to continue its winning ways in Highland Heights, Kentucky, Sunday when the squad plays at Northern Kentucky University. The GLVC match time is 2:30 p.m. (CDT).
