USI begins push to make GLVC Tournament
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team will begin its push to make the GLVC Tournament this week on the road. USI will play its final regular season road games Friday at 7:30 p.m. against Rockhurst University and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. versus Drury University.
The Screaming Eagles (5-8-0, 3-5-0 GLVC) enter the week two-games out of the GLVC Tournament. The final spot is currently held by the University of Missouri Rolla, which is 4-4-2 in the GLVC.
Last week, USI was 1-0 in the GLVC with a 2-1 road victory at Kentucky Wesleyan College. The squad finished the weekend by dropping a 1-0 double-overtime match at the University of Findlay.
For the season, USI sophomore midfielder Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) leads the team with 10 points on five goals. He is followed by junior back Brian Shepherd (St. Louis, Missouri), who is second on the team with a career-high eight points on four goals.
Rockhurst (9-3-1, 7-2-1 GLVC) is second in the GLVC standings and is 6-1-1 in the last eight matches. The Hawks swept their conference games last weekend, shutting out the University of Indianapolis, 2-0, and Saint Joseph's College, 1-0, on the road.
USI has never defeated Rockhurst in eight tries, but the two teams have tied each of the last two seasons. The Hawks lead the all-time series, 6-0-2.
Drury (5-7-2, 2-6-2 GLVC) has lost seven of its last 11 matches since starting the year 3-0-0. The Panthers split last weekend, losing at Saint Joseph's College, 1-0, and defeating Indianapolis, 2-0.
The USI-Drury match-up Sunday will be the first game between the two programs.
