USI falls to #18 UWP, 2-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to #18 University of Wisconsin-Parkside Friday evening at Strassweg Field. The loss dropped the Screaming Eagles out of contention for a berth in the GLVC Tournament.
USI falls to 5-11-0 overall and 3-8-0 in the GLVC, while UWP goes to 13-2-1 overall, 9-2-1 GLVC.
After a scoreless first half, the Rangers scored first on a goal by forward Greg Walasek at the 48:14 mark. Walasek sealed the victory with a second goal at 81:24. Both goals were assisted by midfielder Sher Yang.
The Eagles missed a chance to tie the score 1-1 at the 71:45 mark when USI junior back Brian Shepherd (St. Louis, Missouri) missed a penalty kick. USI had been awarded the penalty kick after junior midfielder Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) was fouled in the box.
The final home game of 2005 will be Sunday when the Eagles host the Flyers of Lewis University at 2:30 p.m. Prior to the match, USI will honor seniors Kyle Penick (Evansville, Indiana), Billy Moore (Newburgh, Indiana), and Jeff Slaga (Kokomo, Indiana).
