Men's soccer kicks off 2006 against Oakland City
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team kicks off the 2007 campaign by hosting Oakland City University Tuesday at Strassweg Field. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Screaming Eagles, who were 5-12-0 last year, are looking to start the year with a win for just the second time since 1999. USI has started the year with a win 12 times, resulting in a .500 or better record nine times.
The Eagles are led by junior midfielder Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) and senior defender Brian Shepherd (St. Louis, Missouri). Stoll was USI's top scorer last season, recording five goals, while Shepherd, the team captain, was second on the team with four goals.
The Mighty Oaks of Oakland City are coming off 7-12-1 season in 2005 and have finished at the .500 mark just once in the six-year history of the program.
USI won the only meeting between the two teams, 10-1 in 2001.
