USI to host regional foes this week
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team plays a pair of Great Lakes Region foes to conclude its four-match homestand this weekend. The Screaming Eagles start the second half of the homestand by hosting Mercyhurst College Friday at 5 p.m. and conclude against Gannon University Sunday at noon.
The Eagles (1-4-0) enter this week's action trying to stop a four-match losing streak. USI has had trouble scoring and has not won since opening the 2006 campaign with a victory over Oakland City University.
Mercyhurst (4-1-0) begins this week's action by playing Myers University, Wednesday, and is looking for its fourth victory in a row. USI trails the all-time series with Mercyhurst, 3-0-0, and lost the last meeting 10 years ago, 6-2, in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Gannon (4-2-0) visits the Midwest after winning two in a row last weekend and has won three of its last four matches. The Golden Knights play a conference match with Ashland University Wednesday evening and a non-conference match at Kentucky Wesleyan College Friday afternoon, prior to coming to Strassweg Field.
USI trails the all-time series with Gannon, 3-1-1, and lost the last meeting, 3-0, on the road in 2004.
