Eagles skid hits six with 2-0 setback
Gannon (6-3-0): 2
at Southern Indiana (1-6-0): 0
EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team saw its losing streak run to six as Gannon University defeated the Screaming Eagles 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
USI (1-6-0) played the Knights (6-3-0) to a draw for more than half the match, but a goal early in the 59th minute of the game by Gannon's Jonathan Whiley broke a scoreless tie. Rudi Costa added another goal in the 77th minute to put the Knights up 2-0.
The Eagles, who have struggled to find the back of the net in their last three matches, had 12 shots, three on goal. They had two excellent opportunities in the second half to put the ball into the net, but shots by junior midfielders Jason Blose (Longmont, Colorado) and Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana) sailed high of the net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Bryan (Portage, Indiana) took the loss for the Eagles after giving up two goals while recording six saves. Matthew Ruston was the winning keeper for the Knights as he recorded three saves in the shutout.
USI returns to GLVC action Friday when it travels to Rensselaer, Indiana, to take on Saint Joseph's College at 5 p.m.
