USI men's soccer concedes a goal and loses at Quincy

QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak stopped by Quincy University, 1-0, Friday evening in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 4-0-1 overall, 1-0-0 GLVC.
The Hawks scored the game-winning goal at the 32:29 mark of the first half. Quincy freshman forward Jack Wedemeier scored off a double assist by freshman midfielders Corey Eatherton and Sean Flaherty.
The goal snapped a streak of 256 shutout minutes by junior goalkeeper Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) and the USI defense. Hults, who did make five saves in a losing cause, has a 0.97 goals against average through five matches.
A close match, the Screaming Eagles out shot the Hawks, 14-13. Quincy did have a 6-2 advantage in shots-on-goal and a 5-4 lead in corner kicks.
USI finishes the two-march road trip Sunday at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Match time in Edwardsville, Illinois is 2:30 p.m.
The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field September 14 when they host Saint Joseph's College for a night match.
