USI men's soccer finishes road swing in GLVC play
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team finishes a three-game road swing in GLVC action when it travels to Drury University and Rockhurst University this week. The Screaming Eagles will play Drury Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Rockhurst Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
USI (4-5-1, 2-3-0 GLVC) enters this week's action looking to end a three-match winless streak after starting the road trip with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Oakland City University. USI junior defender Dan Grunewald (Munster, Indiana) scored his first collegiate goal for the only Eagle tally in the tie.
For the season, the Eagles are led by senior midfielder Carl Carr (England) and junior midfielder Michael Simcock (England). Carr has seven points on a team-best three goals and one assist, while Simcock has seven points on one goal and a team-high five assists.
The Panthers of Drury (8-3-0, 4-3-0 GLVC) have won two in a row after losing three straight. Drury, who started year 6-0-0, broke a three-match losing streak at Saint Joseph's College last Sunday and defeated Rockhurst on Wednesday.
USI trails the all-time series with Drury, 3-0-1, after losing last season's match-up, 2-1, at Strassweg Field.
The Hawks of Rockhurst (6-2-1, 3-2-1 GLVC) have started the year by winning six of their first nine matches, but have lost their last two matches. The Hawks lost to the University of Indianapolis and Drury in the last four days.
The 2005 GLVC champion also is undefeated against USI, going 8-0-2. The Hawks defeated the Eagles, 4-0, last year at Strassweg Field.
