USI men's soccer falls to #1 NKU in double overtime

Box Score: NKU 1, USI 0 (2 ot)

WILDER, Ky. —The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team took number one ranked Northern Kentucky University into double overtime before losing, 1-0, Friday evening in Wilder, Kentucky. USI falls to 4-10-1 overall and 2-8-0 in the GLVC, while NKU remains perfect at 15-0-0 overall, 10-0-0 GLVC.

The Norse scored the game-winning goal at the 105:36 mark of the second "sudden victory" overtime period. NKU sophomore midfielder Seth Eckerlin recorded his second goal of the year to allow the Norse to escape 1-0.

USI junior goalkeeper Andrew Haley (Wentzville, Missouri) played well between the posts for the Screaming Eagles, but was tagged for the tough loss. Haley, who was making just his second start of the year, held the NCAA Division II number one ranked team to just one goal in 105 minutes and made five saves.

The Eagles stayed with the Norse throughout the match, despite being out shot 22-8. NKU only held a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal.

USI finishes the final road trip of the 2007 regular season at Bellarmine University Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (CDT). Bellarmine rose to 10-7-0 overall and 6-4-0 in the GLVC after defeating Kentucky Wesleyan College, 3-0, Friday afternoon.
