USI men's soccer closes out 2007 at home
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team closes out the 2007 campaign with a three-match homestand at Strassweg Field. The Screaming Eagles start the homestand by finishing GLVC play against the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the University of Missouri-Rolla Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The USI-UMR match also is Senior Day for the Eagles. USI will honor the seven seniors – goalkeeper Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) midfielders Evan Stoll (Washington, Indiana), and Quintin Myers (Washington, Indiana), and Carl Carr (England) and defenders Jason Blose (Longmont, Colorado), Corey Hendon (Madisonville, Kentucky), and Matt Vossmer (Frankfort, Kentucky) – prior to the match with UMR.
USI (4-11-1, 2-9-0 GLVC) is hoping to end the season on an up swing. The Eagles have struggled to break a nine-match winless streak since starting year above the .500 mark.
UMSL (6-8-1, 2-7-1 GLVC) will be making its first appearance at Strassweg Field since switching it nickname to the Tritons. UMSL had been known as the Rivermen until the start of this year.
The Tritons have won their last two matches and are 2-2-1 in the last five matches. UMSL leads the all-time series with USI, 14-3-1, and has won the last three meetings.
UMR's Miners (5-9-1, 2-8-0 GLVC) also have won their last two matches and are 2-2-1 in the last five matches. The Eagles lead the all-time series with the Miners, 9-7-2, after playing to a 2-2 tie in Rolla, Missouri, last year.
The Eagles conclude the season by hosting Harris-Stowe State University October 24 at 3 p.m.
Harris-Stowe State (4-15-1) will come to Strassweg Field on a four-match losing streak. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 7-0-0, after defeating the Hornets 4-0 last year at Strassweg Field.
