USI falls to Saginaw Valley State, 3-1
Eagles finish homestand 2-2-0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team finished its season-opening homestand with a split after losing to Saginaw Valley State University, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 2-2-0 overall, while SVSU rises to the .500 mark at 2-2-0.
The Screaming Eagles got on the scoreboard first when senior midfielder Tyree Robinson (Jefferson City, Missouri) made the score 1-0 on his first goal of the year at 14:51. Robinson was put into position to score by passes from junior midfielder Will Reid (Plainfield, Indiana) and senior forward Michael Bendzen (Evansville, Indiana).
The Cardinals evened the match eight minutes later on a goal by senior forward Brent Walker scored at 22:21. The teams went into the locker room at halftime tied, 1-1.
In the second half, SVSU took the lead on a goal by junior forward Vinny Vasilevski at 50:05 to make the score 2-1. SVSU junior midfielder Ryan Seelhoff sealed the match for the Cardinals by scoring at 60:45 for the 3-1 final.
SVSU out shot USI overall, 23-13, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3.
The Eagles go on the road for the first time next weekend when they resume GLVC action. USI travels to Missouri University of Science & Technology on Friday in Rolla, Missouri, and Drury University on September 14 in Springfield, Missouri.
