USI blasted by 10th-ranked NKU, 5-1

WILDER, Ky. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team permitted four first half goals before losing to 10th-ranked Northern Kentucky University, 5-1, Sunday afternoon in Wilder, Kentucky. The loss drops USI to 5-8-0 overall and 2-6-0 in the GLVC, while NKU goes to 10-1-1, 6-1-1 GLVC.
The Norse jumped out to the 4-0 lead by the intermission, scoring two of the goals in the first 10 minutes.
In the second half, the Screaming Eagles settled down and played even with the Norse as each posted a goal. USI freshman defender Danny Pratte (Florissant, Missouri) scored the Eagles lone goal at 47:14, assisted on the play by senior forward Mike Bendzen (Evansville, Indiana). The goal was Pratte's second of the season.
The Norse had the advantage in the match in shots, 19-11, and in corner kicks, 6-2. The numbers were much closer in the second half with NKU leading by one in shots, 7-6, and the teams tied with two corner kicks each.
The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field next week for a two-match homestand, beginning Friday against the University of Indianapolis at 5 p.m. USI finishes next week's homestand with Senior Day on October 19 when it host Saint Joseph's College for a noon match.
