USI menís soccer falls to Rockhurst in season opener
The University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles fell in the season opener at Strassweg Field, 2-0, to Rockhurst College on Wednesday afternoon. USI starts the season 0-1-0 after going 2-0-0 in the preseason.
The Screamng Eagles controlled the start of the game posting four of eight shots on goal, but Rockhurst was able to withstand the attack without a tally being scored. The USI defense also did a superb job in the first half, stopping three shots on goal.
The second half saw Rockhurst shutdown the USI attack, allowing only two shots, while scoring twice on six shots on goal. The first goal came at 59:35 off the foot of Thomas Becks, while the second goal came at the 89:05 mark off the foot of Blake Bornkessel.
The USI Eagles hit the road for their next match on Saturday, September 1, when they travel to the University of Missouri-Rolla for a 1 p.m. contest. The next home match for the Eagles will be Wednesday, September 5, when Brescia University comes to Strassweg Field for a menís and womenís soccer doubleheader.
