USI drops soccer doubleheader to UWP

Women's Game:
University of Wisconsin-Parkside (8-0-0, 3-0-0 GLVC): 2
University of Southern Indiana (1-7-0, 0-3-0 GLVC): 0

University of Wisconsin-Parkside (6-0-1, 2-0-1 GLVC): 2
University of Southern Indiana (3-4-0, 0-3-0 GLVC): 0

The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s soccer teams dropped a soccer doubleheader to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at Strassweg Field Friday night. The game score for each match was an identical 2-0.

The USI men’s team falls to 3-4-0 overall and 0-3-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the USI women’s team drops to 1-7-0 overall, 0-3-0 GLVC. The UWP men’s squad raises its record to 6-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 GLVC, while the women’s team remains a perfect 8-0-0 overall, 3-0-0 GLVC.

In the women’s match, the Rangers scored in the first 40 seconds and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. UWP iced the game at 48:55 of the second half for the final score of 2-0. The Eagles were out-shot by the Rangers 19-8 and were only able to place two shots on-goal.

USI junior goalkeeper Aude de LaSalle (France) stopped 10 of the Ranger shots on-goal with the USI defense stopping the eleventh.

The men’s match-up saw the Rangers take a 1-0 halftime lead a 22:40 and cap off the scoring at 64:09 for the 2-0 victory. UWP out-shot the Eagles 21-22 in a match which saw both teams move up and down the field.

USI junior goalkeeper Chris Davis (Evansville, Indiana) posted a season-high 12 saves in the match, six in each half.

The Eagles will return to Strassweg Field when they host Lewis University Sunday, September 23. The women’s game will begin at 12:30 p.m., while the men’s game will start at approximately 3 p.m. USI will conclude their three-match homestand Friday, September 28, when Oakland City University visits campus for a men’s and women’s doubleheader.
