USI men’s tennis is number two seed in conference tournament
Eagles will play Saint Joseph’s in first round
The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team is the number two seed in the GLVC Tournament scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 16-17 at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. USI plays Saint Joseph’s College, the number seven seed, in the first round Friday.
The Screaming Eagles, who are ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region, won the first meeting of the year with the Pumas, 8-1, back on April 2.
USI (12-6, 7-1 GLVC) is led by freshman Joe Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana), who is ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Region. Epkey was 18-6 at number one singles in his first season with the Eagles and a perfect 7-0 in the league. He also combined with junior Kyle Taylor (Veedersburg, Indiana) to go 9-3 at number two doubles, 7-1 in the GLVC.
Following Epkey in the singles win column is senior Weston Phillips (Henderson, Kentucky), USI’s all-time leader in singles victories. Phillips, a two-time All-GLVC performer who is ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region, is 17-6 overall at number two singles, 7-1 in the GLVC.
