USI men’s tennis drops a close match to DePauw

GREENCASTLE, IN – The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis team dropped a close match, 4-3, at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, Wednesday afternoon. USI completes its abbreviated fall dual match schedule with a 1-2 record, while DePauw goes to 2-0 in the 2004-05 campaign.
Once again the Screaming Eagles started strong with victories by sophomore Joe Epkey and freshman Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana) at number one doubles and junior Ryan Hughes (England) and senior Nim Shetty (India) at number two doubles, winning doubles point.
In singles, Joe Epkey, at number one, and Hughes, at number four, were the only players to pick up victories. Epkey defeated Marshall Kuresman in straight sets,
while Hughes needed three sets to defeated Aaron Gress.
The Eagles begin their fall tournament schedule with the USI/GLVC Invitational Friday and Saturday. The individual tournament will include players from USI, the University of Indianapolis, Northern Kentucky University, and Vincennes University.
