All USI doubles finals at ITA Regional
MIDLAND, MIĖ The ITA Great Lakes Menís Division II Championship will feature an all-University of Southern Indiana championship match for the first time in the history of the program. USIís sophomore Joe Epkey and his brother freshman Jarrod Epkey (Greenwood, Indiana), the number one seed, will take on unseeded junior Ryan Hughes (England) and senior Nim Shetty (India) in Sundayís championship match.
The Epkey brothers advanced to the championship match with a win over the University of Indianapolisí Ross Johnson and Jan Stastny, 8-6, in the quarter-finals. The brothers had started the day with an 8-6 win over Grand Valley State Universityís Kyle Klinge and Adam Sandusky.
Hughes and Shetty defeated their second seeded team of the tournament with an 8-5 win over second seeded Kyle Halberg and Mark Hammelman of Ferris State University. The USI duo reached the championship match with a win over third-seeded Dave Grow and Kyle Dehne of GVSU.
In singles play, Joe Epkey reached the semifinals with straight set wins over Klinge of GVSU and Francisco Gomez of FSU. He will play top-seeded Jason Cole Sunday in the semifinals.
The doubles teams and Joe Epkey are vying for a chance to go the ITA National Championships in Ft. Meyers, Florida, on October 14-17.
