USI wins coin flip to go to GLVC Tournament
Screaming Eagles will be third seed in the West
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The biggest win of the year did not happen on the courts for the University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team, but in the GLVC Offices in Indianapolis. USI won the right to appear in the GLVC Tournament April 21-22 by winning a tie-breaking coin flip with the University of Missouri-St. Louis to break a three-way tie for the last two spots.
USI, UMSL, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville were tied at 2-3 in the West Division after the regular season. USI had beaten UMSL and lost to SIUE, while UMSL had beaten SIUE to force the coin flip. UMSL also earned a berth in the tournament after the coin flip by virtue of its victory over SIUE.
The Screaming Eagles (3-14) are the third seed in the West and play Northern Kentucky University, the second seed in the East. NKU (9-8, 3-1 GLVC) and USI were tied 3-3 in a match that was halted due to weather on April 7.
The tournament will be hosted by Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
