Northwood edges Eagles

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.The University of Southern Indiana men's tennis team lost to Northwood University (Fla.), 5-4, Thursday in its final match on its 2007 spring trip.

USI (1-7) lost at number one and two doubles as the Seahawks gained a 2-1 advantage in double play. Despite gaining victories at number four and five singles as well as a default win at number six singles, the Screaming Eagles were unable to bounce back from the doubles deficit as Northwood recorded wins at number one, two, and three singles.

Bryan Sulcer

Sophomore Dustin Thomas (Corydon, Indiana) defeated Northwood's Andy Picon in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) in number four singles, while fellow classmate Bryan Sulcer (Olney, Illinois) posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Northwood's Jonathon Evans at number five singles.

Sulcer and sophomore Tim Alcorn (Newburgh, Indiana) were credited with a win at number three doubles via default. Alcorn also had a default victory at number six singles.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday when they travel to Greencastle, Indiana, to take on DePauw University at 4 p.m. (CDT).
