GREENCASTLE, Ind. University of Southern Indiana freshman Ben Hamm (Batesville, Indiana) was the Screaming Eagles' top finisher at the University of Indianapolis Invitational, placing third in the number three singles flight. USI also had two players senior Christoph Burger (Germany) and junior Nathan Moore (Santee, California) placed fifth in their respective flights.
Hamm won his first collegiate match over UIndy's Werner Henning in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) before losing in the second round to DePauw University's Cameron Huffman (6-1, 6-1). He nailed down third place with a straight sets (6-0, 6-0) over Bellarmine's Curtis Mitchell.
In doubles, USI's Burger and senior Andrew McGuire (Greenwood, Indiana) took third in the number one doubles flight. The duo defeated Wabash College's William Pelak and Luke Bielawski in the first round before losing to DePauw's Kortney Keith and Scott Swanson in the second round. Third was determined when Burger and McGuire defeated Vincennes University's Jaime Esteban and David Jackson in an exhibition match.
Moore and freshman Andrew Bostram (Terre Haute, Indiana) also placed third in the number two doubles flight. The pair defeated UIndy's Johnathan Hack and Mark Silva, but lost to DePauw's Bryan Heck and David Schouweiler in the second round. Moore and Bostram defeated Vincennes' Charles Hodge and Tony Kanavos in an exhibition match to take third.
The Eagles continue fall action at the Wilson/ITA Great Lakes Regional September 21-22 in Midland, Michigan.
