USI men's tennis signs nationally ranked player
The University of Southern Indiana men’s tennis program announces the transfer of Paulus Halim (Bandung, Indonesia) from the University of South Carolina-Aiken for the 2001-02 season. He will have two years of eligibility at USI.
This spring at USC-Aiken, Halim finished singles action ranked 48th in Division II with a 14-11 record and combined with Bosko Petricevic to rank 22nd nationally in doubles with a 21-7 record. USC-Aiken finished 2001 with a 24-6 record, a 5-3 mark in the Peach Belt Conference, and ranked 19th in Division II.
"(USI) is very happy that a young man of his caliber has decided to join our program," said USI Head Coach Jon Mark Hall. "To have a top-50 player in Division II choose to join our team is a good indication of the program’s growth the last few years."
Halim will likely move into USI’s No. 1 singles position with the graduation of two-time Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Year Edgar Linares. USI, which graduated its top three players this spring, has made two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament, won three straight GLVC Tournaments, and three of the last four GLVC regular season titles.
USI finished 2000-01 with a record-tying 22-7 overall, 8-1 in the GLVC.
