USI men’s cross county takes second
in 21st annual Stegemoller ClassicThe University of Southern Indiana men’s cross country team placed second in the 21st annual Stegemoller Classic on the USI Cross Country Course Saturday.
In the men’s race, USI’s top finisher and the race’s top attached runner was senior Jon Jacob (Mt. Vernon, Indiana). Jacob cruised the four-mile course in a time of 20:37, a pace of 5:10 per mile. Sophomore Mark Thurner followed Jacob for the Eagles, placing ninth overall with a time of 21:37, a 5:25 pace.
Southern Illinois University (Carbondale) won the classic’s title with five runners finishing in the top ten. The University of Missouri-Rolla finished out the team totals in third.
Joey Byrne, an unattached runner, was the top individual finisher with a time of 20:31, a pace of 5:08.
The men’s race was cut by 1.6 kilometers from 8k to 4miles (6.4k) due to the heat and the humidity.
The Screaming Eagles will be idle next week before running in the Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana University on Friday, September 15.
