The
Eagles are coming off a 27-4 2000 campaign which saw them capture the
Great Lakes Valley Conference’s Green Division title with a 14-2 mark
and host the GLVC Tournament, finishing second. The volleyball team enters
2001 under the direction of new head coach Chrissy Smith, who is
taking over for Katie Loyer.
Leading
the way for the Eagles is first team All-GLVC players Shannon Wells (Merrillville,
Indiana), a junior outside hitter, and Kim Boehmer (Cincinnati,
Ohio), a sophomore setter who was the GLVC Freshman of the Year.
Wells
broke-out in her sophomore campaign, finishing second in the nation with
0.89 service aces per game and becoming the second player in USI history
to earn All-Great Lakes Regional honors. Her 93 services aces led the GLVC
and set a school record. Boehmer finished fourth in the conference with
11.88 assists per game and set a school record with 1,236 assists per
game.
