2001 women's Soccer (2001: 0-0-0 overall, 0-0-0 GLVC) Head Coach: Bill Wilkins (email)
April 17, 2001 USI
women’s soccer announces 2001 schedule, The
University of Southern Indiana women’s soccer team announced its schedule
for the upcoming 2001 season, featuring 17 regular season matches and one
preseason scrimmage. USI,
which finished the 2000 season 13-5-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the Great Lakes
Valley Conference, will play at Murray State University Saturday, August
25, in a preseason scrimmage before starting its regular season schedule
Friday, August 31, against Northern Michigan University at Strassweg
Field. The
Eagles will have a tough road schedule, traveling to nationally ranked
Minnesota State University, the University of Indianapolis, SIUE, and NAIA
Tournament participant McKendree College. Indianapolis knocked the Eagles
out of the conference tournament and ended any chance of a national
tournament appearance. “We
hope that our strength of schedule will help us be considered for the NCAA
II Tournament which has expanded to 24 teams this season,” Head Coach Bill
Wilkins stated. USI,
which lost seven seniors from its 2000 campaign, will return junior
forward Kristen Light (Florissant, Missouri) and freshman forward Aisha
Earle-Smith (Spring, Texas). Light was third on the team with 17
points (eight goals and one assist) while Earle-Smith scored 19 points (2nd
on the team) off seven goals and five assists. “We’re
excited about the season,” Wilkins explained. “We have had to reload
after the loss of six starting seniors and have tried to add a couple of
new teams to the schedule.” |
