USI softball schedules make-up game with Brescia
Prepares for conference weekend
The University of Southern Indiana softball team has rescheduled its doubleheader with Brescia University for next Tuesday, April 9, with the first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at the USI Softball Field. The Screaming Eagles were originally scheduled to play Brescia on March 21, but the games were postponed due to weather conditions.
USI (14-12 overall, 4-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference) is coming off of a split
with fourth-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and will host the University of Missouri-St. Louis this Saturday, April 6, and Quincy University this Sunday, April 7. Both of the GLVC doubleheaders are scheduled for 1 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
Leading the way for the Eagles, offensively, is junior centerfielder/pitcher Rachel Bowling (Middletown, Indiana) and sophomore second baseman Brooke Biggs (Osceola, Indiana). Bowling is hitting .389 and has a team-high eight homeruns and 19 RBI. Biggs is second on the squad with a .355 batting average and 13 RBI.
Bowling, the school’s career homerun leader (25), is third all-time at USI with 95 career RBI and needs 16 to become the school’s all-time leader. She also leads the squad with a 1.71 ERA in 65 2/3 innings of work.
Senior hurler Danielle Garnett (Griffith, Indiana) leads the team in wins (nine), innings pitched (104 2/3 innings), and strikeouts (85).
Fellow classmate Molly Blackford (Newburgh, Indiana) also will be looking to add to her consecutive games started list. The senior third baseman has started all 184 games in her three-plus years with the Eagles and has played 1,288 2/3 innings out of a possible 1,299 innings in the field.
The Eagles, who are currently seventh in the GLVC, will play their next 12 games at the USI Softball Field.
