Eagles land four on All-GLVC squad
2004 All-GLVC Team
The University of Southern Indiana softball team had four players named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team as announced by GLVC Commissioner Jim Naumovich at the GLVC Softball Tournament Awards Breakfast at the Peoria Castle Lodge in East Peoria, Illinois this past weekend.
Seniors Shannon Emmons (Boonville, Indiana) and Nichole Pike (Fairfield, Indiana) as well as freshman Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) were named to the first team, while junior Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana) was selected to the second team.
Emmons, who earned first-team All-GLVC honors as a designated player in 2003, was selected to the first team as a utility player after finishing the regular season as USI’s leader in batting average (.364), RBIs (23), and doubles (14). She also led the Eagles in ERA (1.67) and strikeouts (70) while splitting time between third base and pitcher.
Pike, who also is being selected to the first team for the second consecutive year, earned first-team honors as a shortstop. Pike, who earned first-team honors as a third baseman in 2003, recorded five doubles and eight RBIs in 18 conference games in 2004.
Anderson was named first-team All-GLVC as a designated player after leading the Eagles with four home runs and finishing second on the team with a .362 batting average. Anderson tied for second on the team with 15 runs batted in.
Oelling earned All-GLVC honors for the second consecutive year—she was named to the first team in 2003—after hitting .291 with 20 runs scored and a team-high eight stolen bases. Oelling recorded a career-high 15-game hitting streak during the regular season.
The four helped lead the Screaming Eagles to a 23-22 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the GLVC as well as a fourth-place finish in the GLVC during the regular season.
