USIís Oelling to play in Europe

EVANSVILLE, Ind.óUniversity of Southern Indiana softball senior centerfielder Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana) has been selected to play on a USA Athletes International squad in Europe this summer.

Oelling will join players from around the country to compete in the Robur í58 Softball Tournament, which draws teams from Holland, Sweden, Russia, Germany, and the United States. She will be part of the team that USI Head Coach Sue Kunkle and Assistant Coach Annie Medico will be directing in Apeldoorn, Holland, July 3-12.

Established in 1991, USA Athletes International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes the opportunity to experience the competition, history, and culture of other countries on an international level.

USI sent four players to Belgium last summer as part of USA Athletes International. Brooke Biggs, Shannon Emmons, Kristen Houseworth, and Nichole Pike helped their squad to a 5-0 record with its margin of victory anywhere from five to 22 runs.

Oelling is a two-time All-GLVC performer that has a career batting average of .299. She hit a career-best .401 and was named All-Great Lakes Region as a sophomore in 2003.
