Eagles explode for 11 runs in win
Rain cancels second game
USI 11, East Stroudsburg 2 (5 innnings)
KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team exploded for 11 runs and 11 hits to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 11-2, in five innings Wednesday morning in the Division II Rebel Spring Games. The Screaming Eagles game against the University of New Haven was cancelled due to rain.
USI (3-8), winners of three straight, scored a run in each of the first and third innings before racking up four runs in the top of the fourth inning and five in the top of the fifth inning. Junior pitcher/designated player Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) had an inside-the-park home run in the third inning and senior centerfielder Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana) recorded a triple and a pair of RBIs to spur the offensive output.
Sophomore catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) and sophomore second baseman Kerrie Burton (Kokomo, Indiana) also had doubles in the victory.
Junior hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) threw four innings, giving up just two runs, to earn the decision. Grover improves to 2-3 with the victory.
The Eagles will return to action Friday when they take on Lock Haven University and Dowling College at 1:20 p.m. (CST) and 5 p.m. (CST), respectively. They will finish their spring trip Saturday by taking on St. Cloud State University and C.W. Post at 11:30 a.m. (CST) and 1:20 p.m. (CST), respectively.
