Grover leads Eagles to seventh straight win

USI 1, St. Cloud State 0
USI 9, C.W. Post 3

KISSIMMIE, Fla.óThe University of Southern Indiana softball team won its sixth and seventh straight games Saturday with a 1-0 victory over St. Cloud State University and a 9-3 triumph over C.W. Post at the Division II Rebel Spring Games.

USI (7-8) got a pair of solid pitching performances out of junior hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana). Grover (5-3), who has recorded five straight wins, started the day with a four-hit shutout against SCSU before giving up just one hit and no runs in a four-inning relief effort against C.W. Post. She recorded a combined 12 strikeouts to earn both the victories.

The Screaming Eagles used a pair of doubles to score their one run against SCSU. Junior pitcher/designated player Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) recorded an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to score freshman third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio), who reached on a double earlier in the inning.

McNaughton, who started the game against C.W. Post before being pulled after three innings of work, went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to help out USIís offensive efforts in its second game. Senior centerfielder Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana) went 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of RBIs, while junior shortstop Krista Nugent (Hurricane, Utah) went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

USI, which jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, pounded out a season-high 14 hits in the victory over C.W. Post. The Eagles scored a run in the top of the second, four in the third, a run in the fifth, and three runs in the seventh inning to run away with the victory. C.W. Post answered USIís fast start with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

The Eagles, who went 7-2 in Florida, will return home a week from today when they host Division I Morehead State University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at the new USI Softball Field on Broadway.
