Eagles look to continue winning streak,
Hosts McKendree Wednesday
EVANSVILLE, Ind.óThe University of Southern Indiana softball team is looking to add to its nine-game winning streak when it hosts McKendree College in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Wednesday at the USI Softball Field.
USI (9-8) has been riding the arm of junior hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) during its current streak. Grover (6-3) has won six straight games, posting an eye-popping 0.58 ERA during that span. For the season, Grover leads the Screaming Eaglesí pitching staff with a 1.91 ERA.
Fresh off a pair of victories over NCAA Division I Morehead State University, the Eaglesí offense is led by sophomore catcher Lisa Anderson (Chesterton, Indiana) and senior centerfielder Sunny Oelling (Valparaiso, Indiana). Anderson leads the squad with a .405 batting average, five doubles, and two home runs, while her eight RBIs are tied for the team lead.
Oelling is second on the squad with a .333 batting average. She leads the team with 10 runs scored, 20 hits, and a pair of triples.
Junior pitcher/designated player Lyndsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) is 3-0 in her last four outings and has been getting the job done at the plate this season. McNaughton (3-4) is tied for the team lead with eight RBIs and has hit safely in four straight games.
McKendree (8-14) is led by senior pitcher/first baseman Amy Maurer and sophomore shortstop Rachel Ferguson. Maurer leads the team with a .536 batting average as well as a 2.38 ERA, while Ferguson leads the Bearcats with 12 RBIs.
USIís trip to Battle Creek, Michigan, Friday and Saturday for the Great Lakes Region Showdown has been cancelled do to poor field conditions and the threat of bad weather. The possibility of replacement games is still to be determined.
