Ligmanowski's grand slam powers Eagles to game-one victory

University of Southern Indiana freshman utility player Lacey Ligmanowski
(Homer Glen, Illinois) hit a grand slam in the first game of a doubleheader to lead the Screaming Eagles softball team to a 7-3 victory over the University of North Alabama Saturday morning. USI, however, lost in the second game, 11-2 in five innings.
Ligmanowski's team-leading second home run of the year capped off a five-run third inning for the Eagles, who improved to 3-6 with the victory. Ligmanowski went 2-for-4 in the first game with five RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
USI started the scoring in game one when junior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt
(Evansville, Indiana) roped a two-out RBI double to centerfield in the top of the first inning. Senior catcher Angie Davis
(Greenwood, Indiana) followed with an RBI single to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Lindenschmidt, who was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored, started the third inning with a double to right-centerfield and came around to score USI's third run on a single by junior outfielder/pitcher Nikki Nichols
Senior hurler Lindsey McNaughton
(Carmel, Indiana) picked up the win in the first game. McNaughton (2-2) gave up three runs, one earned, off nine hits in seven innings of work.
In game two, McNaughton put the Eagles up 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single down the leftfield line. USI scored another run in the third inning on an RBI single by Davis.
The Eagles, however, gave up three runs in the bottom of the first and three more in the third to fall behind 6-1. UNA (10-4) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and held the Eagles scoreless the rest of the way to end the contest after five innings.
Senior pitcher Missy Grover
(Mishawaka, Indiana) was charged with the loss in game two. Grover (1-4) gave up six runs on seven hits in three innings of action.
The Eagles start the Division II Rebel Spring Games Monday at 7:50 a.m. (CST) when they take on Ferris State University in Orlando, Florida. USI also plays the University of South Dakota Monday at 11:30 a.m. (CST).
