Eagles finish Florida trip with split

KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team finished the Division II Rebel Spring Games with a split Saturday. The Screaming Eagles fell, 1-0, in nine innings to the University of Nebraska-Omaha, before besting the University of Minnesota-Duluth, 7-3, in nine innings.

USI (11-8) finished the Rebel Spring Games with an 8-2 record and has won 11 of 14 since starting the season with a 0-5 mark.

The Eagles open GLVC play next Saturday when they travel to the University of Indianapolis for an 11 a.m. (CST) doubleheader. USI will visit Saint Joseph's College the following day for a noon doubleheader.

Nebraska-Omaha (8-3) 1, Southern Indiana 0 Box Score
It took nine innings and the international tie-breaker—during preseason tournament play and in extra innings, the team batting starts the inning with a runner on second base—for Nebraska-Omaha to get the better of USI.

Neither team could get anything going offensively, but the Mavericks took advantage of the international tie-breaker and an error to push the contests only run across the plate in the ninth inning.

Lindsey McNaughton

Senior pitcher Lindsey McNaughton (Carmel, Indiana) pitched an outstanding game despite being charged with the loss. McNaughton (5-4) gave up just one unearned run and two hits in nine innings of work.

Southern Indiana 7, Minnesota Duluth (7-2) 3 Box Score
USI scored five times in the top of the ninth inning to down Minnesota-Duluth, 7-3, and finish the Rebel Spring Games with an 8-2 mark.

Audra Lindenschmidt

Junior second baseman Audra Lindenschmidt (Evansville, Indiana) capped off the ninth inning with a two-out, three-run double to put the Eagles up 7-2. Freshman outfielder Ally McKinley (Sullivan, Indiana) started the scoring in the final inning with an RBI double, while sophomore outfielder/pitcher Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) pushed McKinley across the plate with a sacrifice fly.

Senior catcher Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana) recorded an RBI in the first inning to put USI up, 1-0.

Senior hurler Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) picked up her fifth straight victory and her team-leading sixth win of the season. Grover (6-4) gave up three runs, one earned, off six hits in nine innings of work.
