McNaughton nabs GLVC pitching honors
Senior pitcher Lindsey McNaughton
(Carmel, Indiana) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference softball pitcher of the week after helping the University of Southern Indiana to a perfect 6-0 record last week.
McNaughton went 3-0 with wins over No. 4-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Quincy University, and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
She finished the week by tossing her first no-hitter in a USI uniform against UM-St. Louis. In that game, McNaughton allowed just three base runners and faced one hitter over the minimum as she won for the ninth time in 10 outings.
McNaughton started the week by holding SIU Edwardsville to three runs and four hits. In her 5-3 victory over the Cougars, she helped herself from the plate by belting a ball over the leftfield fence.
Against Quincy, she scattered seven hits and three runs through out seven innings to help the Eagles to the first of two wins against the Lady Hawks.
For the week, McNaughton had a 2.00 ERA and a .162 opponent batting average. Her performance helped the Screaming Eagles move into second place in the GLVC and within a game of first-place.
For the season, McNaughton is 15-8 with a 1.91 ERA and a .225 opponent batting average.
USI (33-14, 15-5 GLVC), which has won 19 of its last 21 games, is scheduled to host St. Mary-of-the-Woods Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Eagles finish the regular season when they host Kentucky Wesleyan College for Senior Day Saturday at noon. First-pitch for the GLVC doubleheader is slated for noon.
