Eagles garner post-season honors

EVANSVILLE, Ind.The University of Southern Indiana softball team had four players collect post-season honors Monday.

Senior pitcher Missy Grover (Mishawaka, Indiana) and senior catcher Angie Davis (Greenwood, Indiana) along with sophomore third baseman Kristin Eickholt (Van Wert, Ohio) and sophomore leftfielder Kathy Wood (Lynnville, Indiana) were named to the All-Great Lakes Region second team in a vote by the region's coaches. Eickholt also was named to the Great Lakes Region All-Tournament team.

Missy Grover

Grover led USI with a 22-7 record and a 2.17 ERA in 2006. The 22 wins were a career-high for the senior. She finished her career at USI ranked third all-time in career victories (60), career innings pitched (646.2), career shutouts (20), and complete games (69).

Angie Davis

Davis was one of USI's vocal leaders and top RBI producers in 2006. She finished the season with a .308 batting average, eight doubles, one triple, three home runs, and 39 RBIs. She finished her career at USI with five home runs and 58 RBIs.


Eickholt, who led USI with 45 RBIs, crushed the single-season school record with a GLVC-best 21 doubles in 2006. She had a .343 batting average, four home runs, and was second on the team with 11 sacrifices.

During the NCAA II Great Lakes Regional Tournament, Eickholt hit .462 with three doubles and four runs batted in.

Kathy Wood

Wood led the Eagles in batting average (.392), stolen bases (14), and sacrifices (18). She also had a pair of 11-game hitting streaks in 2006.

All four players where named to the All-GLVC team, with Grover and Davis grabbing first-team honors. Eickholt and Wood were on the second team.

USI finished the 2006 season with a 39-18 overall record, 17-5 in the GLVC. The Screaming Eagles' win total was the second most in the program's 29-year history. They set a record for home runs in a single season (25) and were just one RBI short of the single-season school record (226). The Eagles also scored 262 runs, just 12 shy of the single-season school record.
